Senior Design Day

As part of Erick's last year of school, he had to do a senior project. Erick signed up to do an electric racing car with 4 other guys in his class, and they have spent the entire school year working on it. They had to solicit funds from various companies to help them finance the work on the car and make upgrades on the car from the previous year's project. The body had a lot of work done on it from the polycarbon shell and the epoxy coating to the steering system, brakes and so forth.

They got to display their project on April 19, 2011 at the Union Building on the University of Utah's campus. Mom, Ryker, Taylor, Corri, and I went up to support Erick and his group and to see all of the other projects. Erick showed us the car, the batteries they run the car on, and the video of the test run they did in the parking lot on campus.

Erick's group got an excellent score on their project and did a wonderful job with their presentation. They answered questions throughout the day and then took it back to the engineering building so that the department could give it to the next group of seniors to work on.

We're so proud of Erick and it was fun to see his hard work pay off in something that I could see and touch - and it sparked my nephew's interest in engineering!!!

The car.
