Pre-Birthday Celebrations

Being that Ryker is our only child right now, and not knowing if or when we will have more, we felt like it was time to throw our son a small birthday party. We don't have family that lives close enough to justify the drive, so we asked the kids in our neighborhood complex that play with Ryker, to join us in celebrating his 4th birthday. Since Ryker's real birthday falls on a Sunday this year, we felt like it would be fun to do a lot of things the day before and then do presents and special meals and cake on Sunday.

We started our celebrations off at a small carnival on Friday afternoon. On Saturday morning, we threw a small birthday party - an Angry Bird birthday party. We had mostly girls come (they all love Ryker so much) and one fellow!  We played pin the tail on the Angry Bird, Angry Bird Bingo, and the candy bar game, followed by pizza, cupcakes, and ice cream. It was only one hour long, but every seemed to have a good time. Then I was reminded that he had presents to open so we sat him down and let his friends barrage him with their presents. He was so excited he didn't know what to play with at first, but then he decided on a little out door game where you have a long scoop that catches a ball when you throw it.

Following the birthday party, Papa Farley came up to go bowling with us, but stopped to get him an Angry Bird t-shirt for him as a present. Ryker fell in love with the shirt and was reluctant to take it off tonight when we bathed him. The bowling was fun - we played two games and Ryker was given a child's ball, used the child's rail to push the ball down, and had bumpers to help him. He had so much fun that he has been begging us all night to take him back and do it again! He loved having his Papa here to celebrate with him and made sure that Papa got an Angry Bird cupcake before he left to go home.

Following the intense afternoon, we took him to Chick-fil-a to get his free birthday meal that our Credit Union gave him. We ate our meal and then Ryker spent a half-an-hour in the play-land. We brought him home tired and ready for bed- except for the fun in the bath before calling it a night. This was just the pre-party! More to come tomorrow!

  1. The boys were so sad that we couldn't come. Looks like you had a blast, sorry we missed it. Your cupcakes are adorable. You guys are such good parents and Ryker is blessed to be your son. Hope the birthday was fabulous!
