Happy 4th of July 2013!!!

The 4th of July was a nice, relaxing day for our family. We got tired of standing in the heat to watch parades of fast food chains, cheerleaders, and politicians so we decided to stay home this year. I got up early and set up Ryker's swimming pool and got it filled up so that the water could get warm. Then we ate breakfast, got dressed and watched "SpaceBalls" (which incidentally, I wasn't so keen on). We ate our boring lunch, and then the fun began.

My family usually congregates about 3:00 p.m. so we took Ryker out at 1:30 and let him start to play in the pools (my mom had one set up as well). Erick and I sat outside to watch him play and ended up getting drawn into a water fight with him. We then had Corri and Richard's family come and they participated in the water fight.

Dinner was the usual hamburger and hotdog roast and then we played games until it was 8:00 p.m. We love this time to do the little kid type fireworks. We bought some smoke balls and pop-its for Ryker to do and he loved them. Corri's kids did the snakes, smoke balls, and some sparklers. Then Mom and Corri's family did some bigger fireworks before we watched Layton City's from our front lawn.

It was a nice day but more importantly, it was nice to pause and think about the founding of our nation and all of the hard work and deaths that have occurred in creating and maintaining our freedoms. Mine and Erick's grandfather's served in the U.S. Navy in World War II on different carriers. Grandpa Jenkins lost his brother during the war and he was never found.  I thank all of the men and women from all times and generations for their sacrifice and patriotism that has kept America going, and I hope that all of us can unite to restore what is slowly being taken away from us through the crafty plans of evil people.  May God continue to bless America and Happy 4th of July 2013!!
