The Library
I love reading and have since I was a little kid. Our house always had books in it and so I was reading mid-year in Kindergarten. Now that I am a mom, Erick and I have loved sharing books that we have read with Ryker and I have made it a weekly event to go to the library and check out some books. In Layton, we would check out about 15 books and read them at nap and bedtime. Sometimes Ryker would have us take them with us to church and read them during Sacrament meeting (it has reduced the naughty behavior). When we moved up here to Logan, it has taken me some time to get the house put together and our schedule set up, so we haven't been to the library in about 3 weeks and Ryker kept asking if we could go.
Yesterday, we decided it was time to go check it out and see what we could find. It has been so cold up here that it was the first time this week that we have ventured out of the apartment. Ryker was so excited that he was running from displays to books and to desks while I filled out the application for a card and got set up in their system. He jumped on all of the furniture and pulled books off of shelves so fast that I was starting to get upset (my fault that he was house bound all week) so I was getting desperate to have him sit or help me select books. That was when he noticed the computers. The computers are set at a child's level of sitting, the computers are colorful and child based. They have learning programs on them such as Nick Jr. and Sesame Street where kids learn letters, numbers, colors, etc. The library's policy is that you can play for 30 minutes and then you have to get off, they also require you to wear earphones to hear the computer while you play and have adult supervision the entire time.
I was elated. I quickly selected books while he got started and then I sat with him and helped him get started on the activities he wanted to do. The 30 minutes went really fast and he was bummed when the computer told him his time was up. He asked me if we could come back soon - oh yeah, we're going back soon. That was the best spent hour of time we've had in awhile and it was

He looks so grown up sitting at the computer with his headphones! Great activity. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteHeather, Ryker is growing so fast. The day I feared has come. He is such a little man with a mission and I will always cherish they time we have had with you, Erick and Ryker in our home. I will miss the reading time and cuddly time that I was able to have with him. We miss you all. I love you. Please tell Ryker how much I love him. Great Picture. Dad
